When two companies build a car like this together, what kind of promises do they make each other? Are all bets off when it comes to which will be the better performer? Do you think the only agreement in this case that Toyota won’t build a convertible version and BMW won’t build a coupe? The assumption in this case is that the Supra will make better numbers due to the additional weight of a convertible, assuming both have the same drivetrain making the same power. I’d assume the suspension setup will be the real defining difference between how these two cars feel to drive.

I’m not sure if I’d own either of these, but as an enthusiast, I sure hope they’re both great cars and sell very well.

It’s really a case by case basis. I believe in the case of the Isuzu Hombre, it never got the S10's V6 for example.

Was that a joint development deal, or just a case of Chevy building/rebadging them for Isuzu?

German engine/trans, and associated electronics, means I have zero interest in the thing.

Sad, but understandable. My 10 year old German uber-sedan has 115k miles on it. I have had to replace a couple sensors, but otherwise... [knocks wood]

For the FRS/BRZ twins, if I remember the first year of sale. Subaru could make only 1 BRZ for every 4 FRSs and after that all bets were off or something. My buddy had to wait 6 months before he could get his BRZ if I remember right.

Wow - I guess that’s the cost of doing business with a massive company like Toyota! I was glad to hear that there will actually be a 2nd generation for the 86 platform. My friend loves his FR-S, and it’s very impressive how well it can hang with much-higher-powered cars (like my M3 and my friend’s supercharged C6) in the twisties.
